When you need your haircut you don't just go to anyone, right? Most people either love their barber dearly, or are searching for a new one. For me, when I first walked into Mentality for a haircut, I was immediately impressed by Brittany because she was a licensed barber, which is rare in the male dominated field of barbering. I have been a faithful client ever since. Over the years, Britt and I have shared many stories of family, work and life. I heard of this terrific man named Brian, and then months later we found ourselves talking about weddings... You can guess what was next. I was thrilled to be asked to photograph Britt's wedding, but I wanted to meet her man. The funny thing is, he has been making deliveries at my studio for quite a while in the purple and orange truck, but he always has this way of sneaking in and out so fast that we rarely get to say hi. During their engagement shoot, I asked about how they met. I thought it was such a cute story I asked Britt to share it with you below!
"When I was 16 my cousin Jennifer, who now happens to be married to Brian’s best friend, introduced me to Brian. We kept in touch after meeting but being young kids we never got serious. We remained friends for 6 years through which we both began and ended other relationships. We always talked about being together but the timing never really worked out. At 22 years old, two weeks after my last relationship ended (I’m a serial monogamist) Brian said he wasn’t waiting for the perfect time anymore, and we’ve been together ever since. We both wish we had made it work from the initial meeting, but we also truly believe we wouldn’t be where we are today if it hadn’t been for those years spent building a friendship first."
